Rescued Parvo Puppies Remind Animal Responsibility | Blog

These two adorable and resilient puppies lived in the same neglectful and irresponsible household as a previous parvo dog we rescued, Baby Girl. Their tragic circumstances – preventable with standard vaccinations – are a reminder that bringing an animal into your home is a significant, lifelong commitment. The main reasons people abandon their pets in shelters are behavioral issues, change of family housing, incompatibility with the family’s lifestyle, and unrealistic expectations. A pet can live for 15-20 years and there will undoubtedly be unforeseen expenses. Pet insurance can be a useful tool to help owners protect both their pets and their savings. The reward for unconditional love far outweighs the cost, but the decision to adopt a pet should be made wisely.

Boone is heading for his forever home! Fortunately, Boone and Doc were able to get the attention and care they needed. Boone was doing well in treatment. So well, in fact, that he was soon allowed to be adopted into a wonderful home. Doc hasn’t fared so well and continues to demand more interventions. According to Dr. Mark Verdino, Chief Veterinary Officer for Animal League America, “Doc continues to suffer from nausea and persistent diarrhea. His vital signs are stable, so we will provide him with additional symptomatic treatment to help him feel better as he hopefully fights off the virus. In addition to antibiotics, our parvovirus treatment protocol includes medications for nausea, antidiarrheals, appetite stimulants, and pain management.
