Crazy things dogs do when left home alone.

When you have errands to run outside and take care of a baby at the same time, you know you’re up for a challenge. As guilty as you are of leaving your beloved pet alone at home, he may be just as guilty of indulging in cute and less cute antics.

You could be gone for a short two hour stay or maybe a long and continuous escape extending up to 8 hours. It is this last type of absence that is worrying. It may have taken you hours to properly maintain your home, and yet, to your dismay, you find your home ransacked by your beloved pet. And the best part of all the drama unfolding in your home when you return is that no matter how hard you try to act harshly, despise, yell and scold your pet, the response you’ll get from your pet will be a blank, humble and innocent looks you straight in the eye and asks you, “What have I done?”

Dogs are social beings that are meant to live in groups. Obviously, as pets in a civilized home, humans form its family pack. The dog alone at home can easily get bored and feel lonely. Well, here’s a small collection of photos we’ve put together for the curious dog owner, just so they can know exactly what their dog is doing when left to their own devices. Here’s what your dog could do to keep himself entertained and occupied:

1) Being sad because of loneliness–
Always remember that your pet loves you more than you love him. You can go places for work, business and recreation, bark orders at him and train him hard to obey rules, but your pet will never say a word to you. When you leave your pet home alone for hours, he misses you. Initially, there may be these violent rounds of protest, but as the sadness of loneliness becomes more apparent and evident, it surrenders and accepts your absence with a heavy heart. The loneliness in a dog’s life can take on a negative flavor with issues such as incessant barking, howling, anxiety, indoor defecation and chewing on objects within reach.

2) Mess up the kitchen–
The first rebellion streak has passed, your pet realizes that it really needs something to eat. The poor guy is hungry and starts an expedition in search of the best food in town to fill his stomach and what better place to look for food than your kitchen? The revolution begins and your pet explores the furthest corners of the kitchen, removing all vegetables and fruits from the refrigerator if it is not locked. He smells of spices, whole grains and cereals and doesn’t like the taste. It is advisable to bring chews, dog biscuits, etc. and keep them handy before leaving the house.

3) The revolution begins to boil-
Hunger may have been satisfied, but there is no one home to watch, baby or play with. The poor guy feels more neglected than ever and anger erupts in your kitchen. Not even God can save your kitchen from the wrath of your beloved pet. He is tired of counting the days and waiting for you. Your dog breaks into your kitchen, plunders the area and destroys all remnants of human civilization. You could come home to a stinky kitchen with all the trash spilled out and the trash thrown away. We all know the culprit here!

4) Take a nap in your bed–
The revolutionary fire is now extinguished. Your exhausted dog, petrified and disturbed by the alarming levels of silence, realizes that he has tried enough to contact you. Snuggling up in your clean laundry and slipping away into dreamland is next on the agenda. It may be your scent that attracts the dog to your bed and reassures him. With you and no one to worry about, there’s no stopping your pet now. Forget your bed. It used to be your bed, but now it belongs to your baby animal now! Don’t be surprised to see pinholes in your bedspread and cotton ripped from those pillows. Your dog needs quality entertainment. Buy some good dog toys that can keep him busy while you’re away from home.

5) Get dirty out of boredom–
Poor guy is tired of sleeping. He needs new avenues to ward off boredom and deal with the pain of being apart from you. Separation anxiety cannot be categorized as disobedient behavior; it is a disorder that needs to be treated. For a pet, its owner cannot be replaced in any way, but you can always ask a neighbor or a relative to come by in your absence to supervise and give company to the animal. Or the pet dog could be left for the said period at a dog daycare/kennel/your friend’s house. Another alternative is to keep a few of your dog’s favorite toys in various places known to him to partially occupy him.
