Pick your own sunflowers: dog-friendly places in Melbourne
What is U-pick sunflowers?
Pick Your Own Sunflowers is a spectacular sunflower field open to the public for approximately 4-6 weeks, anytime between February and April (depending on when the sunflower field begins to bloom).
The opening date for Pick Your Own Sunflowers in 2023 has just been announced – see below!
Based in Dunnstown (90 mins west of Melbourne, 15 mins east of Ballarat) hereou can walk around this beautiful sunflower farm with your dog until the mood takes you.
There’s no time limit during your stay, so you can leisurely pick your own sunflowers while scouting for the best Instagram-worthy spots to take cute photos of your dog.
How much does it cost?
Admission to Dunnstown Sunflower Field is $10.
Each sunflower stalk you pick is charged at a very reasonable price of $4 per stalk.
Cash is preferred during the day due to poor wifi signal at the farm.
When can I visit Pick Your Own Sunflowers?
The opening date for Pick Your Own Sunflowers in 2023 is Sunday, March 12, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Due to the weather, the sunflower field has been slow to bloom this season (last year it was from late February to April).
The start date is usually only confirmed at the last minute, as the owners always make sure the land is in full bloom before it opens to the public.
It’s the same with the call at the end of the season. We were very lucky the year we went as the sunflowers stayed in bloom longer than expected so the season dates were extended.
Otherwise we would have missed it!
What to bring:
- Cash for tickets and rods
- Phone or camera
- Closed shoes or boots (to protect against scary critters!)
- Shears
- Snacks or a picnic basket (a limited amount of food is available on the ground)
- Your dog of course!
We strongly recommend keep an eye on the Pick Your Own Sunflowers website and Facebook page below for up-to-date information.
This is truly a sight to behold and a must do dog day trip from Melbourne.
We hope you love it as much as we do!
