A dog whose horrific head injuries left his skull exposed has finally found happiness in foster care.

Eoin, who is named after his rescuer, was found in December last year with injuries so terrible those who reported him thought he had only one eye. The horrific nature of his injuries was quickly discovered when he was quickly brought to My Lovely Horse Rescue vet John at Blackwater Vets.

Eoin had trouble breathing because of his swollen face. He had fresh and old puncture wounds, open wounds on his legs, and severe head wounds that were so deep it was possible to see his skull.

According to Aoife Cunningham, Canine Team Volunteer, “As a rescue charity, our volunteers have witnessed the aftermath of animal cruelty inflicted by humans. But nothing could have prepared anyone for the level of cruelty laid bare on such a small body.

Despite his terrible experience, Eoin spent a few hours at the vet without becoming aggressive towards anyone. He left the veterinary staff to treat his wounds and replace his dressings. Cunningham said he took his medication without any problems.

The spirit of the dog inspired the members of the rescue team.

“We all wept over the level of cruelty this boy had endured and were determined to give him a bright future, knowing he had a long road of treatment and rehabilitation ahead of him,” Cunningham added.

Eoin is slowly settling into his new home, surrounded by toys, stuffed animals, a heat lamp and endless love. He was also gradually gaining confidence to take short walks with the volunteers.

Cunningham added: “As Eoin slowly leaves his past behind, his scars will always tell the story of our little Christmas miracle, so determined to defeat the odds against him, a little boy who continually chose the love above all.”
