Every dog needs a place to rest, so how about a kennel that matches their personality? Does your dog need all the bells and whistles or just a place to nap? Here are some suggested house style and personality combinations to help you think about what type of house would be right for your dog.
The “I’m Too Busy to Care” House
This house is ideal for dogs who spend their day chasing balls, herding sheep, or stalking that sneaky squirrel that crossed the yard last night. They are so busy investigating, playing, sniffing, thinking, etc., that they really don’t care what their house looks like. It’s a temporary stop for a glass of water, a quick rest and then off they go. These dogs only need four walls and a roof, and you can paint it any color you want.
The house “I like to watch the world go by”
If your dog is more interested in watching than participating – until something Really good happens – then they need a house with a porch. Somewhere that gives them a comfortable place to laze while still having full viewing access. It also needs to have a platform for a quick launch, because you never know when something is going to cheer them up – “Dinner time!”
The house “I reign and you drool”
A two-story house is the perfect home for the dog that is (or thinks it is) the best dog. They can climb the stairs to their throne, rule their realm, and despise anyone bold enough to approach. A place for treat offerings is essential, and if you put a pillow up there, it better be to their liking, otherwise – fluff. Everywhere.
The house “I’ll stay here all day”
For dogs that are rarely struck by the urge to run and can barely raise an eyebrow all day, a house with everything built in is ideal. A cozy place to nap, a nearby food and water bowl holder, and a place for toys. All the comforts of home at your fingertips. Because who has the energy to walk three steps to the bowl of water?
The house “I’m spoiled and I know it”
If you (or others) would describe your dog as high maintenance, this is home for your pampered pooch. This is the upscale canine mansion that has everything you can think of. Basically it looks like You could live there. And yes, if it’s the outdoor version, it has an air conditioner designed specifically for doghouses and an attached “cool” tub for summer splashes. Too jealous?
