June 2023 Dog Events and Dog Holidays – Dogster

It’s officially summer and here in Northern California, that means hot, dry weather, plenty of time for the pool and ice cream – and the start of fire season. Over the past two years, devastating fires have destroyed homes and millions of acres of land, displacing families, pets and wildlife. Although it’s not pleasant to think about, having an emergency preparedness plan for your family, including your pets, makes shared decisions easier when disaster strikes. June is National Pet Readiness Month and the perfect time to start (or finalize) your plan. Need inspiration? A few years ago I wrote this article about organizations that help pets during natural disasters.

One step is to make sure you’re prioritizing the right gear, like a car seat, harness, leash, and a carry bag full of essentials. Having these items in an organized place takes the stress out of decision making when you need to get out of the house quickly.
