Annie, a 19-year-old black Labrador retriever mix, died on June 24 after living her best life going on a year-long adventure with her two furry moms.
Annie’s furry moms, two best friends named Lauren Siler and Lisa Flores adopted the adorable pup on June 21, 2022.
Siler revealed that they told him that Annie was only a month old. But Annie defied all odds and lived another year.
And when the two best friends brought Annie home, they created a to-do list for her, filled with things the pooch could do before she dies.
Since her adoption, Annie has never looked back, received so much love, and been able to check so many things on her to-do list.
Among those things were a birthday party, a DNA test, a professional photo shoot, two Christmas celebrations (one in July and one on actual Christmas Day), a news appearance, a burger tour, a out on the Texas Rangers baseball field, paint a picture, and even “travel to all 50 states and several international destinations”.
Siler said, “It was starting to get hard to come up with things to add to the to-do list. We were like, ‘Gosh, what are we going to do now? Who knows, she’s done so much.
Since then, Annie has become an online sensation with people following her journey as she ticks things off her to-do list one by one.
People on Instagram then started giving Annie’s furry moms some to-do list suggestions. “And so we were like, ‘Oh, that’s great! Like, now we have more ideas, ’cause it looks like Annie is going to stick around for a while. So we have more things to do.
But sadly, Annie crossed the Rainbow Bridge on June 24, exactly one year and three days since she was adopted.
“Annie had the life we pray every senior dog we rescue can live. Annie didn’t just live last year…she blossomed! » Siler said in the Instagram post announcing Annie’s passing.
Annie had a bloat that made her do a full 360 on her stomach and her only option was surgery. However, Siler revealed that the surgery was “never something we would put Annie through.”
“Collectively, we have made the most difficult decision for us but the kindest for Annie”, she continued.
Speaking to TODAY, Siler said, “It would have broken my heart more that she had been dropped off in the shelter surrounded by no one she knew unless we had to go through this grief when the time came.”
“I knew the signs, I knew the pain, but I also knew what it meant to be by her side all the time. I wanted to be that for Annie,” she also wrote in an Instagram post.
When Siler shared her first post from Annie, she wrote that, “When her time comes and she tells us she’s done, she won’t be alone in a shelter.”
And true to their word, the last day of 19-year-old dog Annie “was with all the people who loved her. she was celebrated. she greeted all the dogs that came to her party and then her body decided she was done.
Keep calm, Annie. Hope you keep checking things off your list of things to do in dog heaven!
